Grandma Does Santa Really Exist?
My Grandson asked that question just about a month ago. I really tried never to lie to my children and although he is my grandson, I still figured truth was the best policy. I wanted him to know the spirit of Christmas was in fact real. Santa I had never believed in, but the birth of our savior and celebrating that birth has always been important to our family.
How do you explain all of this to a seven-year child? I had forgotten how I actually told my own children; I think it was something like. I’m actually your Santa and your daddy is your tooth fairy. They thought it was kind of reversed and thought it was so funny they told all their friends. So I wasn’t sure the explanation had been all that good, I mean there were a few parents who didn’t care for their children finding out there was no Santa.
So I sat my seven-year-old grandson on my lap, and said. Santa may have been a very nice man once upon a time, who had the money to drop toys off at every house. I’m not sure where the story of Santa Clause came from; he may have just been a myth from the very beginning.
I do know one thing for sure, the thought of giving, caring, and loving all children is very real, and the spirit of all these should stay in all of our heart throughout the entire year and not just once a year. We actually celebrate Christmas to honor Jesus’ birthday. He is the Son of God, and his birth was very important to all of us. With giving to others out of love and caring for each other we also give to him. That is what Christmas is truly all about. A time to remember, a time to share, and give to people who may not have as much as we do. That is the idea of Santa; he gives to children everywhere whose family may not have the money to buy any gifts. Giving cans of food or serving food at a homeless shelter may help some family desperately in need. By our family doing these things to help other people in a way, we are Santa Clause, and the spirit of Christmas lives on.
