What paintings do you find pleasing to your eye?
66Paintings that are considered Classics
Do you have a favorit Artist?
Like so many things you ask yourself, why did the Mona Lisa become so famous?
What was it that caught so many people’s attention? To me the painting is nice but it is not really to my liking. I would not want it hanging on my wall. There are thousands of people who would love to have that painting. So what makes it a masterpiece? Is it because of the artist who painted it, or is it the fact that it has lasted for so long? Could it be the mystery behind the painting? After all no one actually know whom the picture of the woman really is. Is the painting of the woman, or a self-portrait of the woman inside the man who painted the picture? Some people seem to think so, or is it just some woman on the street that the artist fascinated on?
There are Abstract painting that you can sat and stare at for hours trying to figure out what was in the artist’s mind, while painting it. Is it also the mystery behind the painting or the artists that lead to whether the paintings are considered classics or not?
My favorite artist is Thomas Kinkade (the artist of light) his paintings never cease to fascinate me. I don’t know whether it is the light or just the scenery and homes he puts into his paintings, but I love them. I’d own as many as possible if I could. To me he is my ultimate favorite artist.
His pictures would be hanging all over my house. I love to put the puzzles of his prints together. To me he is perfection on canvas. With every one of his paintings I can image living in the scenery he has created. To me that is true art. He is the kind of artist I strive to become. I know I have a long way to go, but someday I will paint my own kind of magic where people want to see themselves in.

So How to You Choose?
So how do you pick the art that goes on your walls? Do you choose what other people decides are classics or do you choose what is pleasing to your own eye? There are many people who buy art, not because of what they like, but because it is an investment. They hope one day to receive a large return on the picture they purchased. Maybe they like the idea of others being envious of the paintings that are from famous artists worldwide.
Maybe it is because I consider myself an artist that these things don’t appeal to me. I would only purchase a painting because it is something I enjoy looking at. For whatever the reason you purchase prints, is always up to you as an individual. I must admit my prints and paintings that hang on my walls range from cute little animals and angels to all kinds of scenery. Some I have painted over the years others are prints of other artist who I enjoy. I buy things that I know I will continue to love looking at for the rest of my life. No classic painting, that is not to my liking could ever bring me the happiness; my own eyes bring me when I look at the beautiful artwork that I display in my own home.

You make a very good point about art being something that inspires and transports you rather than something that matches the couch or may one day be worth money. My house would be filled with work Kandinsky and early Klee!

Interesting hub. To me, art is anything that moves you and draws you in. I think that's why modern art has become so popular, because it forces people to look at it again and again.
