The emptiness, the black hole, what can I say a space in time where there is nothing.

Halloween Fright Night

Dracula was the first in line and the wolf man came up next, Halloween was here again and I as always was at the front door with treats to hand out to the little goblins that came venturing out that night. For years I had always loved Halloween, for me it was a special time of years, I made my three children’s costumes and held a Halloween party with my husband. Now my children were grown with children of their own and my husband of twenty years had passed and left me all alone. My children had moved from our dying little town and so here I was left alone to hand out treats like the four years before, little did I know the little goblins were not the ones I had to fear this year.

As usual the traffic of goblins started dying down at around eight o’clock, after all little goblins still had school tomorrow. So bedtime was still in affect for the younger ones. I had a few teens that came until around ten. That was when I closed the door to my candy store. I finished watching my Halloween thriller that had been a tradition in our home since our children were small the cartoon headless horseman and then later the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

I shut down the television and turned out the porch light as I locked the front door. I headed down the hallway to my lonely bed, when I heard the first noise from the back of the house by the kitchen, I retraced my steps and then headed toward the kitchen to see what the bump was that I heard. Everything looked fine; nothing had fallen to the floor. I headed back to bed once more. After my nightly routine I crawled between the nice cool sheets and laid my head down on my favorite pillow.

Full Moons

Grafic photo turned into art, on adobe.
wolves howl at the full moon, no matter where they may be.

Ever so often I had heard noises before in my old home, but I had always put it down to the house settling, or I’d put some pan or dish at the wrong angle in a cabinet and it had shifted. After all old houses had their own personalities. Those were my thoughts as I was dosing off.

Soon after, I awoke to an animal howling at the foot of my bed, I don’t have a dog. I turned on my bedside table lamp to find a black wolf standing at the foot of my bed. His eyes were piercing yellow, and he was staring straight at me. I pulled the covers up to my chin and stared back. The next minute he turned to mist and was gone. I sat there shaking for several minutes, trying to calm down after seeing the apparition.

That was when I heard a totally different kind of noise. Something was scratching at the back door; I looked over at the clock it was just minutes before eleven. The scratching still continued, so I put on my booties and headed toward the back door where the sound was.

I turned the light on thinking, if it were some overly rambunctious teen, they would be scared off. It was no teen and the light seemed to antagonize whoever was out there worse then it had been. The wood sounded as if it were snapping with every swipe of the claws as they smashed against the door. As I turned off the light I looked out the window. A pair of red eyes looked back. I stared into the petrifying eyes of something, as the clouds moved across the full moon became a glimmer of light.

All of a sudden the wolf was back and growling at the door. I turned and ran back to my bedroom, in the closet on the top shelf was my husband’s old shotgun and ammo. It hadn’t been used since his death so I prayed it would still be clean enough to work. I grabbed the gun and ammo, and headed back out the door, the wolf stood at the end of the hallway. The scratching had stopped, but the repulsive monster was standing in front of the mystic wolf. He was half man and half beast, but nothing I had ever envisioned, nor did he look like anything I had ever seen on television his hands resembled an eagle’s talons while his face resemble more of a gorilla’s face except for his mouth. The monster had long yellow fangs with a protruding black mouth. The next thing I knew the mystic wolf attached the gruesome monster. I shakily loaded the gun and aimed it at the beast, but with the mystic wolf charging him I couldn’t get a clear shot. I stood there watching as the enormous beast started to swipe a talon at the mystic wolf, just to have him disappear into a wisp of gray vapor and rematerialize into a wolf once again.

I got this pic off of photoshop and thought it was cool. Thanks for the use of your pic. Janeal
Another neat picture from photo shop.

I knew I would have to time my shot perfectly, for I was not sure if the bullet would harm the mystic wolf, or just go right through it into the beast. So I waited with baited breath, for my one shot at the scary beast. The wolf had done a great job on his own of weakening the beast, blood was everywhere from the wolf’s claws and teeth. I saw the beast start to strike and the wolf again faded out as the shot rang out and headed straight for the gruesome beast’s right eye. The shot hit it mark, and the beast grabbed his face as the wolf materialized to start a brand new attack. As the wolf charged the beast fell and the fight was as good as done. He started to change slowly at first as the beast changed into a man, before my very eyes. I had seen werewolves in movies, read about them in books, and I still wasn’t sure that this beast was actually a werewolf. He actually didn’t have any caricaturists of a wolf. He had looked like he was part eagle, part man and part ape with a bad disfigured mouth. So what do you call something like that who planed on killing you? To my horror I called him my neighbor, he had moved into the house next door from me two weeks ago.

The mystic wolf disappeared once again into a cloud of gray mist. I would never know where he had come from, or where he went. But I will always remember the Halloween night that a mystic ghost wolf saved my life.
