Controversial Movies

I don’t know how many of you are caught up in the Twilight series and the Harry Potter series, but I am. When these movies first came out some people stated they should not be released. They didn’t feel their children should idealize the characters the actors were portraying. These people have stated the movies were ungodly because of the content within the movies such as witchcraft and the undead. As a child growing up I remember watch movies, such as Jessie James, Bonnie and Clyde, Snow White, Peter Pan, and Dracula, just to name a few. We played at being Bonnie and Clyde, cowboys and Indians, Jessie James and his gang. None of which caused us to kill our neighbors, or our friends. They were entertainment, we all knew it, yes some of us did get in trouble later in life, but the trouble that was caused had nothing to do with the movies we watched as children or early teen years. Some of us took the wrong roads, got into drugs, alcohol, or wanted to make an easy buck without working for it. Others of us lead normal lives, despite experimenting with drugs and alcohol. While still others of us turned out far better then anyone had ever thought possible.

As children we all enjoy the world of pretend, our imagination flies with being able to become anyone, from Spiderman to Jacob. What person wouldn’t want to transform into an animal and live in the wild? What child wouldn’t love to climb up buildings, or fly around the world at the speed of light? They also dream of becoming firemen, police officers and teachers, are these people not someone they should look up to and love to be around. My oldest granddaughter wanted to be Cinderella up until this past year. She loves her kindergarten teacher three weeks ago she informed me she wanted to be a teacher. When I asked about Cinderella, she said.

“Oh grandma, she is just a cartoon you can’t become a cartoon.”

She’s five years old and already knows television is full of make believe characters. She has been told what acting is all about, some actress or actor dies on the screen, and her mom and I tell her the character died off in the movie or was killed off in the movie. The actor still lives on he/she will be in another movie. My mother passed away just months ago. She knows she will not be coming back, but she lives within our hearts and in our memories of her. She realizes death is a part of life, does she totally grasp the meaning of all these things yet, probably not totally but to some extant she is learning the differences between make believe and actual life.

I can’t say that these movies are right for everyone; personally I hate terror movies, like Saw, Friday the Thirteenth, and Nightmare on Elm Street. Does that mean I have the right to say, no one should watch them. I don’t feel I do, just because I don’t believe in happily ever after, I still watch romantic movies. Just because you do not believe in the supernatural does not mean these movies are not worth watching, or God will damn you if you do, if that were the case no one would ever watch Shakespeare’s Mid Summer Night Dream. Today the play so many people wanted to band so long ago is considered a classic.

One thing I’ve noticed over the years, the most controversial movies have become Classics. The Wizard of OZ, Gone with the Wind, and Superman, all of these classics were slammed for one reason or another. Walt Disney was scrutinized for how many movies and cartoons, yet he was one of the main leaders in Hollywood if the Disney mark was on the movie, it sells; his entire dream came true beyond even his wildest imagination. His dreams still live on today with most of his cartoons and movies being considered classics.

These same people will think nothing of watching the Wizard of OZ, Gone with the Wind, or even Dracula. They were made during an earlier time, while they were children or teens and fell in love with the movie the same as so many of us did.

I know what you mean I have two novels I'm writing at the moment and it depends on what mood I'm in on which novel I write in one is dark and the other a romance. It is truely amazing how our minds work. Let me know how your novel is going and I'm happy to be one of your followers too.

I think the movies are full of imagination and part of human nature, good and bad. I write fantasy fiction in my spare time and I'm all about good and evil and it's a realease to let my imagniation run wild. It's like art- some people like some stuff and others don't.

Great topic. Happy to be a follower.
